Isn't it wrong to bring Heaven down to an earthly level?

Q: It seems the older I get the more I look forward to Heaven, though I cannot begin to imagine eternity in the presence of God. It bothers me when I hear people talk of Heaven as a place where they can enjoy leisure on God’s heavenly golf course, or watching football in the most magnificent stadium. Doesn’t this seem to bring Heaven down to an earthly level? – H.V.
A: We sometimes speak of a beautiful sunset or a warm spring day as “glorious.” But even Earth’s most awe-inspiring nature is but a shadow of the glory of Heaven. Even when we allow our imaginations to run wild on what Heaven will be, we find that our minds are incapable of realizing such magnificence.
When the Apostle John was given a glimpse of Heaven’s grandeur, he barely could find words to describe it, comparing it to the most wondrous objects on Earth – only far greater.
Why is Heaven glorious? It isn’t simply because of its incredible beauty, overwhelming as that will be. Heaven is glorious for one supreme reason: Heaven is the dwelling place of God.
Heavenly rest will be so refreshing that we will never feel that exhaustion of mind and body we so frequently experience in this life. Those who know Christ as Savior will one day behold the beauty and the glory of Heaven – God’s eternal home.
Only in Heaven will we know exactly what Heaven is like. “The heavens declare the glory of God. … Their words [go out] to the end of the world” (Psalm 19:1, 4, NKJV). What a thrilling future for those who know that someday we will populate the kingdom of God.
